MEETING OF MASTERTON COMMITTEE.
ACTIVITIES OF THE MONTH.
The monthly meeting of the committee of the Masterton Branch of the Plunket Society' was held in the Plunket Rooms yesterday. There were present: Mesdames J. Caselberg (president), N. Irwin, S. L. P. Free, E. G. Norman, J. M. Coradine, T. Jordan, A. Ericson, A. H. Falloon, J. James, M. Carmine and R. Miller (Kopuaranga). Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. W. Wardell, H. H. Daniell, P. Natham, R. C. Drummond, W. A. Michael, E. G. Eton, J. D. O'Connor, D. Donald, J. V. Gordon and A. F. Stewart.
The president moved a vote of sympathy with Mrs Henry and family in the death of Mr J. B. Henry. The motion was carried in silence, all members standing as a mark of respect. Accounts amounting to £55 14s lOd were passed. A circular was received from the Dominion Secretary advising the branch of the appointment of Dr. Deems to the position of medical adviser to the council.
Mrs Caselberg gave a very full report of the general conference held 'in Wellington on November 16 and 17. The report was supplemented by Mrs Miller.
Remits were discussed in part and the remainder held over until the next meeting. The president welcomed Mrs Norman after her trip to England. During her visit, Mrs Norman said she had visited Cromwell House the home of the Mothercraft Training Society, founded by Sir Truby King and that Miss Liddiar, the matron, was much interested in receiving a visitor from New Zealand and showed her over the beautiful home. There was accommodation for 40 students, six mothers and 18 babies. At a garden party opened by Queen Elizabeth £2OO were raised in aid of the funds.
It was moved that a letter 1 of thanks and appreciation be sent to Dr. PlattsMills for her interesting address at the mothers’ social evening.
A vote of thanks was also passed to Mrs T. F. Watson, for presenting a photograph of Sir Truby King to the Plunket waiting room. Thanks for infants’ garments were accorded to Mrs Howell, Mrs Rossen, Mrs E. H. Speedy and Mrs Church. The nurses’ report stated: —Masterton visits to office, adults, 413; babies, 377; older children, 124; telephone, 165; total, 1079. Visits to homes, new cases, 50; old cases, 280; total, 330. New cases charted for month, town, 15; country, 3; total, 18. Out-stations: Kopuaranga, Mauriceville West and East, two visits each; Te Wharau, two visits; visits to home, new .cases, 4; old cases 25; total, 29. Tinui and Annedale, one visit each; Whareama, Langdale and Blairlogie, two visits each; Homewood, one visit; visits to homes, 13. Pre-natal section 1 : New cases, 2; return visits to rooms, 7; visits to homes, 1; casual, 3; total, 13. '■ Mrs Caselberg wished all the compliments of the season and stated that the next meeting would be held in February. -
