TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
MEETING IN MASTERTON. The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its final meeting for the year in the Y.M.C.A. hall on Tuesday afternoon. This was also the first, occasion, since the inauguration of the Guild three years ago, on which a December meeting had been held. It was a particularly happy function, as the major portion of the programme was provided by members’ children. Mrs W. H. Judd presided and welcomed several members who had been absent through illness. It was reported that letters had been received from the Sedgley, Whatman and the Methodist Childrens’ Homes, expressing thanks for toys that had been donated by Guild members. It was decided to cancel the picnic which was to have been held in January.
Mrs Judd thanked the Circle leaders and all others who had helped to make the birthday celebrations in November such a success. ■■
The programme opened with a bracket of Christmas carols, sungs by the Singing Circle. Barbara Hair was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her excellent address on “Emmeline Pankhurst.” The following children also contributed to the delightful programme:—Pianoforte solos, Fraser Hope; Frog Dance, Kathleen- Wiltshire; recitations, Jocelyn Heath and Marion Bennett; operatic dance, Joan Burke; song in character, Margaret Thomson; tap dances, Norma Brown and Wendy Torwick; Cinderella dance, Margaret Thomson:
Afternoon tea was served by committee members, and, the singing of two Christmas carols by 'the Singing Circle, followed by the Guild Ode, concluded a most enjoyable function.
