COLLEGE CRICKET
WAIRARAPA v. RONGOTAI. AN INNINGS WIN FOR VISITORS. The match between the Wairarapa and Rongotai Colleges was continued on the College ground yesterday afternoon and concluded this morning, resulting in a win for Rongotai by an innings and 65 runs. Wairarapa compiled 158 in their first innings yesterday, Patrick playing a particularly good innings for 80 which included a 5 and eight 4’s. Jones batted well for 21 (including three 4’s) as did Tooby for 19 (two 4’s). College started off poorly 5 wickets being down for 30 and 6 for 36, but Patrick, Jones and Tooby changed the face of things.
Disaster overtook the local eleven in the second innings 4 wickets being down for 12 and 7 for 39 but Patrick, who again played a splendid knock, kept his wicket intact till the call of time. His score included five 4’s. Patrick suffered an injury to one cf his legs through having been hit twice from -fast balls. He was handicapped in batting this morning. Messrs J. Renner and F. Dohnt acted as umpires during the game, their services being much appreciated. The Rongotai boys return to Wellington this afternoon, highly pleased with their trip and the hospitality extended to them. The scores were as follow: — RONGOTAI. ■First Innings .’. 294 WAIRARAPA. Though Wanganui only required 77 runs to win and had 12 of them on for the loss of one wicket, Wellington made the visitors fight hard to win by four wickets when the annual cricket match between Wellington College and Wanganui Collegiate School was concluded on the Wellington College ground yesterday morning. On the opening day Wellington had scored 62 and 123 and Wanganui had totalled 109 and 12 for one wicket. Yesterday Wanganui scored 77 for the loss of 6 wickets (A. Renshaw not out -.■.i).
