POWER CONTROL
MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD THE FINANCIAL POSITION. TAUERU EXTENSION LINE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The chairman, Mr A. C. Pearce, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, held at Carterton ' today. Others present were: Messrs W. A. Tate, M. B. Tait, C. R. Holmes, J. W. Colquhoun and'Fi C. Daniell, y. - -- The secretary-managdr; Mr G. Brown, stated that in November, the revenue again exceeded the estimate. For the first eight months of the year, revenue amounted to £38,082 5s Bd, an increase of £1075 13s 7d on the figures for the corresponding period of last year. So far, expenditure also had been kept within the estimate, but for the balance of the year there would be some additional expenditure not fully provided for. This would make it difficult to provide for further reductions in charges. The: survey of the section of line as far as the Taueru township had been completed. It was expected to start the carting of the poles and materials this wedk, and to commence the erection of the line immediately after the New Year. Power should be available in the Taueru tovznship by the end of January.
Advice-had been received that the Castlepoint County had been duly gazcited as forming part of the board’s outer area. Steps were being taken immediately to have completed the necessary guarantee agreement, and the petition to have included in the board’s inner area, the portions of the Masterton Vand Castlepoint counties which it Was proposed to reticulate. In his report, the Engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan stated: “The whole of the Miki Miki 11000 volt extension has been completed. The branch line to Mr J. Colquhoun’s was livened on November 10. All consumers are receiving -a supply. The survey and plans for the 11,000 volt extension to the Taueru district have been completed and submitted to the Public Works Department, Post and Telegraph Department and Masterton County Council for approval. A start will be made with the construction on January 5 and given good weather, power should be available for use in the Taueru township on January 26. As reported last month, the late delivery of materials was holding up the erection of the additional mercury vapour street lamps in Masterton. This material has just arrived, and a start has been made with the erection. The new lamps in the south end should be livened this week.
“During the month, the inspection department carried out a total of 274 inspections, including 16 new installations, 139 additions and alterations, 49 radio sets. 32 sundry appliances, 18 temporary jobs and 20 second inspections.”
It was stated that 16 new consumers were connected during November, bringing the total up to 5795. It was decided to make application tn the Local Government Loans Board for authority to raise a loan of £20,000 for a period of 26 years at 3i per cent V> reticulate the Taueru, Tinui and Langdalo district::. It was also decided to opp?,' for “iitlicrity to raise a loan of £25 000 to carry out further reticulation cf the board’s district.
Consideration of a proposal to provide additional storage accommodation at Masterton was deferred pending a report from the Secretary-Manager.
