HERD TESTING

WAIRARAPA DISTRICT’S GOOD RECORD. THIRD HIGHEST PRODUCTION IN NEW ZEALAND. It is interesting to note that the cows under test in the Wairarapa Herd Testing Association for October were the third highest in butterfat production in New Zealand (7576 cows averaging 41.01 b fat per cow) and this out of 190,697 cows, for which the average for the Dominion was 33.61 b fat:

Dairy farmers in the Wairarapa are now making big headway in the breeding of better producing stock and, although the district invariably suffers from erratic climatic dairying conditions when suitable feed is grown to supplement these adverse periods the Wairarapa should reach the peak of butterfat production for New Zealand. Following is a list of Herd Testing associations’ averages for October for comparative purposes:—-Bay of Islands 30.5; Bay of Plenty 28.3; Bulls 37.45; Bush 40.3; Canterbury 41.3; Golden Bay 38.7; Heretaunga 36.7; Hokianga 27.2; Manawatu 38.2; Mangonui 31.2; Marlborough 39.1; Murchison 35.8; New Zealand Co-op. 32.0; Northern Wairoa 31.9; O'Kains Bay 49.4; Patea District 37.6; Poverty Bay 29.2; South Canterbury 36,2; Southern Hawke’s Bay 38.7; Southland 40.3; South Taranaki 37. fr Wairarapa 41.0; Wairoa County 31.3; West Coast 35.6; Whangarei29.o.
