MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD
RETURN OF PATIENTS. CHAIRMAN ON THE FINANCIAL POSITION. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, held today. Others present were: Messrs F. Court, W Britlaiid, D. McGregor, W. I. Armstrong, C. T. Richardson, F. W. Parry, Arch Clark, J. F. Thompson, P. R. Welch, Mesdames J. Robertson, S. Fletcher, Misses C. McKenny and H. Card. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Trevor Beetham and F. E. Bolton.
The return of patients at the various institutions controlled by the board for the month of November was as follows; the figures for the corresponding month of last year being shown in parentheses:
Masterton Hospital: In hospital on October 31, 135 (137); admitted during month, 132 (127); total under treatment, 267 (264); discharged during month 150 (130); in hospital on November 30, 117 (134); daily average, 125.33 (136.56). Grey town Hospital: In hospital on October 31, 28 (13); admitted during month, 39 (22); total under treatment, 67 (35); discharged, 41 (24); in hospital on November 30, 26 (11); daily average, 25.2 (12.3). There were 55 inmates in the Buchanan Home at the end of November as compared with 49 at the same date last year. Pahiatua Hospital: In hospital on October 31, 21 (16); admitted during month, 22 (32); total under treatment, 43 (48); discharged during month, 28 (29); in hospital on November 30, 15 (19); daily average, 17 (19). The Matron of the Greytown Hospital reported ihat the Carterton Savage Club visited the Buchanan Home, and entertained the inmates with a concert. The relatives of Mrs Mitchell had given her wheel-chair to the Buchanan Ward.
The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, stated that patients’ fees collected for the period from April 1 to November 30 were as follows, the figures for the corresponding period of last year being shown in parentheses: Masterton Hospital, £3847 . (£2971); Greytown Hospital, £2957 (£2311); Pahiatua Hospital, £844 (£768); other hospitals, £3lO (£478); District nurse, Eketahuna, £l3 (—), Masterton £6l (£3l). The aggregate collections were greater by £1473 than for the same period of last year notwithstanding the fact that Masterton and Greytown were lower than the proportional estimates. Dealing with the financial position of the board, Mr Lee said that for the period, April 1 to November 30, maintenance expenditure was in excess of receipts by the sum of £1251 18s. On capital account there was a credit balance of £1443 Is 9d. The bank balance had a credit of £452 3s lOd. Outstanding cheques totalled £328 0s 9d. Mr Lee added: “Local contributing authorities levies for maintenance and Government subsidy thereon received to November 30, 1938, total £29,749. The proportianal amount due, to this date is £30,119, leaving an amount of £360 due. The third quarterly instalments of levies was due on November 30, and local authorities are given 14 days after due date in which to pay. So far the majority of local authorities have forwarded their instalments, and an advance of £3500 on account of subsidy has been received from the Department of Health. It is anticipated that the remaining instalments of levy will be received with the next 14 days and then claim will be made for balance of subsidy due.”
