The Gas Engineer-Manager, Mr J. Douglas, reported:—Gas manufactured: Total gas made corrected N.T.P. was 3,681,100 c.ft. being a decrease of 168,400 c.ft. or 4.3 per cent over the corresponding period of last year. Gas sold per meter shows an increase, of 3 per cent. Government Inspector: The inspector visited the works on Monday, November 28. Calorific value of the gas was 458 B.T.U. and sulphuretted hydrogen was absent. Naphthalene plant: A large amount of time has been spent on cutting and clearing blocked services. This is caused by anjexcessive amount of naphthalene mixing in with the gas. At the present time the naphthalene plant is placed in such a position as to treat only the amount of gas that enters the low pressure main. The gas entering the Bannister Street holder is not treated in any way to combat the naphthalene trouble and I would suggest shifting the machine into the main engine room and treat all I the gas before it enters the holder. The plant at the present time can only operate when the booster Is not working. If shifted into the engine room the machine can run for any length of time and save the cost of running the gas engine and would also be under closer observation. General: The works are running very satisfactorily at the present time and the men have been engaged on service work and painting the lower lift of the works holder.
