MAWLEY PARK
FACILITIES FOR VISITING MOTORISTS. AN ATTRACTIVE CAMPING AREA. Not least of Masterton’s assets is the picturesque Mawley Park motor camp site, situated at the northern entrance to the town. The area in its virgin state was donated to the Masterton Borough Council some years ago by Mrs S. Mawley and as its attractions have become better known it has been patronised to an ever increasing extent by travelling motorists. There is seldom a day, summer or winter, when a motorist is not to be seen camping there. The area has been improved ana developed almost beyond recognition by the progressive Pafks Committee of the Borough Council and now every facility and convenience of a modern motor camp is available. The beauty of the surroundings add to the attractiveness of the Park and in the development work nothing has been done to impair the beauty of the stately trees and clumps of bush. Recently another large area near the pavilion has been cleared, levelled and sown, while the long grass has been cut tmd undergrowth cleared in other parts. There is good bathing to be had in
the Waipoua River handy to the Park, which is only about a quarter of a mile from the centre of the town. It is anticipated that accommodation at the Park, which has a caretaker living nearby, will be fully taxed during the coming holiday period. Wairarapa motorists would be well advised to visit Mawley Park before travelling further afield. They will find nothing better in their travels of the North Island.
