CRICKET

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Cricket Association was held in the Secretary’s office last night. There were present: Messrs J. E. Tier (in the chair), A. McPherson, V. Greer, G. Peterson, and the Secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs P. G. Ramsay and R. Lendrum.

A letter was received from the Wellington Cricket Association advising that the coach, Mr J. R. Sheffield, would be available at Masterton from January 23 to January 28, 1939. The Secretary was instructed to write and accept these dates. Club secretaries are to be requested to submit names of players they wish to have coaching. A letter from Nelson was read, inviting a Wairarapa t team to play a match at Nelson. The matter was left in abeyance, until the Clubs had notified how may players would be able to make the trip, the suggested time being Easter. The question of umpires coats and sight screens was discussed. Mr Greer offered to provide umpires coats when required for representative games, and Mr Peterson and the secretary were asked to look up the sight screens and if necessary have them repaired, so that they would be available for use on Boxing Day. The senior games for next Saturday will be A team versus B team at the Park Oval and C versus D at the College. It was decided that all matches be cancelled on December 24 and December 31. This applies to both the senior and junior matches. All competition games are to re-start January 7.

Since the meeting the secretary has received information that the Hawke’s Bay team will visit Masterton to play Wairarapa on December 26 and 27.
