SPIES IN U S A
STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT
NEED OF CHECK ON OTHER NATIONS.
CALL FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 9.
President Roosevelt told a Press conference that he will ask the new Congress for additional funds for American intelligence services in order to check up on the activities of the secret police and spies of other nations. He said the spy situation had by no means been cleared up in the recent trials. Its roots go down pretty deep. He insisted that the United States did not need an Ogpu to watch the American people, but needed to watch the Ogpus of other nations.
