The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Education, returned to Wellington from Auckland today. The Hon H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, left Wellington for Auckland by the Limited express last night. The Hon F. Jones, Minister for Defence, will leave Wellington for the South Island tonight. He expects to be away about a week. The Rt Rev Dr M. J. Brodie, Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, will •onduct an ordination service in Greenneadows. Hawke’s Bay, tomorrow. He will return to Christchurch later. The Rev Kenneth R. Small has reiigned from the position of vicar of □torohanga and has accepted an appointment as acting-vicar of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland. The funeral of the late Mrs J. McKenzie, which took place in Masterton m Wednesday was largely attended. The Rev John Davie officiated at the graveside and the pall bearers were Messrs Harold McKenzie and Nathley McKenzie (grandsons), L. Liddington and E. Liddington (nephews), and J. Clarke and I. Sykes. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. After recovering from his recent serious illness, Mr J. Connell, upon sever.ng his connection with Messrs H. B. I'homas and Co, was the recipient of i suitable memento. Mr Thomas, in making the presentation, recalled Mr Connell’s excellent services as accountant, and on behalf of himself and stall wished him good health and success in the future. Mr Connell suitably replied. The death occurred at the Masterton hospital this morning of Mr Bernard (Jack) Smith. The late Mr Smith was born in Australia 72 years ago. He spent considerable time on the Australian goldfields, and during the past ten years had been in the employ of Mr C. A. Cameron of Flat Point. He was a single man and had no relatives in New Zealand. The funeral will leave St Patrick’s Church tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 o’clock for the Masterton cemetery.
