SCHOOL BALL.
AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS.
(“Times-Age” Special.)'
The annual plain and fancy dress children’s ball held in the King’s Theatre, last evening, was an outstanding success from all points of view. The children’s part of the programme was a pleasing one. It was a wonderful sight to the crowded gallery and stage onlookers to see the little tots go through the grand march and other dances taught them with great patience and skill by their teachers. The fancy dresses worn by the children were a revelation. The children’s ball room was a glorious sight to behold. At the conclusion of the children’s part of the programme the little children were entertained at supper provided by the parents. The music, for the children’s dances was played on a wireless gramophone, installed by Mr C. K. Goodin, a member of the committee. The headmaster and his staff are to be complimented upon the great success of the ball, and the financial result. At the conclusion of the children’s part in the programme the adults occupied the dance floor and spent a pleasant time to music supplied by Tom Udy’s band. SCOUTS AND CUBS.
SUCCESSFUL CARD TOURNEY. On Wednesday evening a successful card evening was held in St Mary’s Hall by the executive of the Boy Scout and Cup troops. There was a good attendance and the funds of the Carterton Troop will be considerable augmented as a result. The prizes were won as follows: —Ladies, Mrs F. O’Keefe and Mrs J. Hooper; men, Mr H. Goodin and Mr J. Hooper. Motor Collision. A collision between a car driven by Grace Smith, travelling north, and a car driven by Mr Lipinski, going south occurred in Carterton yesterday. Lipinski vzas coming out of Philip Street when the collision occurred. The cars were only slightly damaged, but Mr:
Bridge, a passenger in Miss Smith’s car, received a slight injury. Tennis Teams. The following will represent Carrington Park B team to play Memorial Park tomorrow at Masterton: —Messrs H. Parker, C. Jensen, W. Sewell, M. Parker, G. Udy and A. McLean; Mesdames M. Parker, H. Parker, C. Jensen, Misses Pauling, Copeland and Hopkins. The Carrington Park C team to play Greytown at Carrington Park will be as under: —Messrs J. Fitzgerald, N. Johansen, A. R. Tankersley, W. Frost, S. Parker, W. Vaughan; Misses E. Garrett, M. Parker, V. Ward,’ P. Marshall, A. Williams, J. Tyldersley. • Personal. Mrs W. Tucker leaves Carterton on Sunday by cai’ en route for Auckland where she will catch the steamer Monteray which will sail for England on Monday via San Francisco. Mrs Tucker is visiting her relatives and expects to be away from Carterton nine or twelve months. During the week the Methodist Church members at an evening function presented her with a bouquet and a beautiful cut glass scent bottle and wished her bon voyage and a safe return to Carterton. Yesterday afternoon at the residence of Miss M; Underhill, a personal friend, Mrs W. Tucker, was tendered a social afternoon. The wish of all present was that she should have a pleasant trip abroad and a Safe return to Carterton. '
