KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL
NEW BUILDING SCHEME. FOUNDATION STONE TO BE LAID TOMORROW. Another step towards the completion, of the building scheme undertaken by Knox Church to provide a Sunday School and Bible Class rooms to replace those lost by fire, will be taken tomorrow at 2 p.m. when the Right Rev T. E. Riddle, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, will lay the foundation stone of the new building. Building operations commenced in . August, and good progress has been made by Mr J. W. McKeon who is in charge of the undertakn The building is being constructed of concrete, heavily reinforced with steel, with brick veneer and cavity walls. The first floor also of concrete is already in position, and the dimensions of the main hall, junior hall, and class rooms are discernible. The ifnposing main entrance is in Worksop Road, and it is here where the stone’will be laid. (The whole building is a memorial to the late James McGregor, of Balquhidder, who was the founder of the youth work, 50 years superintendent of the Sunday school and throughout the years one of the most valued members of Knox Church. He was also one of the most public spirited men Masterton has had,’ and for this reason the function is being made a public one. The Mayor and the Chairman of the County Council will be present and speak, and the public are. invited to take part in the function, inspect the building and accept the hospitality of the congregation at afternoon tea. The building which is estimated to cost £9500 is being financed by the generous gifts of the congregation. The whole of the money is promised with the exception of £l5OO, and the managers are hopeful that a considerable portion of this will be subscribed at .he special offering which will be taken up at the laying of the foundation stone ceremony. ■
