CANADIAN SPEARHEAD

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN LONDON.

ROLE OF SOME IMPORTANCE.

EDMONTON, Canada

“Canada is the only Dominion with a Chamber of Commerce in London. It is the non-political spearhead for the Dominion.” Thus, G. H. Ward, secretary of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain, addressed a local audience during his recent trip across Canada. He further stated that Canada has the oldest dining club in London, well over a hundred years old. This club and the Chamber of Commerce were both doing much to serve Canada in London. The Canadian railway companies maintain branches throughout the United Kingdom, and their contributions were invaluable. Likewise, he said, the banks assist very materially in creating good-will for everything Canadian. Mr Ward lived in Canada before the Great War. farming both in the East and in the West. He has made several official visits across Canada since then and stated that he was "very conscious when passing through Canada of the progress that had been made. We, who today can look back prior to the War, can feel with pride that the growth of Canada is such that those who follow us will have indeed much to thank the present generation for.”

In conclusion, Mr Ward left a message for greater Empire co-operation. “What would Canada have been today had she not organised,” he asked. “For that matter, what would this Empire of ours have been without organisation? We must co-operate, and it is essential that we should co-operate to the fullest possible degree. We must take counsel together, plan together, work together and build up for the future an Empire which, in the past, has done so much for civilisation. The question must be faced. Have we fulfilled our mission in relation to the British Empire, the mission to its own generation unborn. Its mission to the world for which it still has great things in trust,” Mr Ward answered his own questions by stating that in his opinion “this Canada has fulfilled, and is fulfilling, its obligations in this regard,”
