MARTINBOROUGH

* HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION. FORTHCOMING EVENTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the last meeting of the Martinborough Home and School Association, over which Mrs Burch presided, it was decided to set aside £5 to replenish cricket supplies, and to have a Christmas tree for the infant children, and those in Standards 1 and 2. A break-up evening is to be held during the last week at school, at which there would be a small display of children’s work, items by the children, an address by the headmaster, etc., followed by supper for the parents and children. Parents are to be asked to bring a plate and the Home and School Association to provide remainder of the supper. Mrs Burch reported on the success of the final social of-the year, and the association wished to thank all those whc had supported their activities throughout the past year. The next social will be held on the last Thursday in February, 1939, and the music will be provided by Te Tau’s orchestra. It was decided to have the school wireless put in good order by the beginning of the next school term. Mr Pryor is to convey the Associaiation’s sympathy to Mrs Pryor in her indisposition. OBITUARY. MR KEN WRIGHT. Deep regret was felt in the town yesterday at the news of the death of Mr Ken Wright, at the age of 25. The late Mr Wright is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Arch Wright, of Princess Street. He had been in ill-health for about a fortnight, having just been in the Tiri Hospital for 10 days. His death occurred in the Masterton Public Hospital late yesterday afternoon. He was an active member of the Martinborough Miniature Rifle Club and the Amateur Radio Club, and will be greatly missed from these clubs’ activities. The sympathy of many friends will be extended to his parents, brothers and sisters.
