FEATHERSTON
CALF AND LAMB COMPETITIONS. FURTHER RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The judging of the entries in the calf and lamb rearing competitions took place at the South Featherston school on Wednesday in the presence of a good attendance of children and parents. Seventeen calves and seven lambs were presented. The judge was Mr M. Parker. The results were as follow:
Care and handling: Delcan Ness 1, Maris Ness 2, Hazel Lumsden3. Dairy type: Maris Ness 1, Delcan Ness 2, Hazel Lumsden 3. Herd testing prize: Maris Ness 1, Delcan Ness 2, Razel Lumsden 3.
Calf by registered Ayrshire bull (Mr J. G. Donald’s trophy).: Hazel Lumsden 1, Myra Cole 2, Doreen Cole 3. Grade Jersey: Noel Smith 1, Evelyn Snell 2, Roy Smith 3. Best records: Hazel Lumsden 1, Elsie Harvey 2, Marls Ness 3. Lambs competition: Tressa Gundersen 1, Leila Rasmussen 2, Olive Sorensen 3.
Entries were received from four schools. Afternoon tea was provided by the South Featherston Home and School Association.
Mr Parker gave a short talk to the competitors on their projects and on points to note in future competitions. Mr J. F. Brophy, group president, Colonel T. W. McDonald, representing the Wellington Education Board and Mr F. C. Brockett, Agricultural Supervisor, also spoke. Mr T. Scott judged the fat lambs. After lunch the prizes were presented by Miss Card.
Music Theory Results. Mrs Raper has received the following marks gained by her pupils at the written examination held by the Associated Board on November 5: —Grade IV, Margaret Foss, 67; Grade 1, Olivyn Clapshaw 88; Ivy Wilton 87; June Card 66; Dorothy Raper 68. Presentation. On Tuesday night the directors of the Wairarapa Automobile Association Insurance Company presented Miss B. Currie with a 7-piece crystal toilet set for a dressing table, in appreciation of her services to the Association. , Cricket. The following will represent Featherston in a match with Pihautea, at Pihautea during the weekend:—Bartlett, Buck, Campbell, A. McCalmont, A. Fuge, M. Fuge, J. Davis, D. McKenzie, D. McCalmont, P. Ritchie, Price,. L. Fuge, E. Walker, R. Fuge. Card Tourney. The Fire Brigade’s weekly card' tournament was well attended on Tuesday night. The prize winners were: Ladies, Mrs W. Fuge 1, Miss K. Ruane 2. Men, Mr R. Fuge 1, Mr J. Rae 2. i Personal. Miss Beverly Hooper, of the Wellington Training College, is the guest of Mrs Harvey, Kohutara. Farewell Gathering. The business people and members of sports clubs and representative residents of Featherston and the district met in the Odd Fellows’ Hall to farewell Mr D. C. Kibblewhite, who is leaving shortly for Temuka. Mr J. W. Card presided. On behalf of those present, and others unable to be present, Mr Card asked Mr Kibblewhite to accept a solid leather suitcase as a practical expression of their good- . will and estem.
Mr H. R. Bloxam endorsed the re marks of Mr Card.
Mr Kibblewhite acknowledged the expressions of goodwill and the gift.
