GREYTOWN
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM. ELECTRIC POWER AFFECTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) During the early hours of this morning Greytown residents were roused by heavy claps of thunder and vivid lightning, accompanied by heavy rain. The electric light was off at short intervals. The storm continued till nearly 9 a.m. Personal. Mr George Petherick, of Wellington, who has been seriously ill for some months has sufficiently recovered to enable him to travel to Greytown, where he is staying with his daughter, Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins. Nurse Moran, of the Greytown Hospital staff, leaves today for a holiday with her parents at Kaikoura.Rifle Shooting. The annual competition for the McLeod Memorial Shield will be held on Saturday afternoon on the Papawai range. The conditions are seven men to a team—ten shots at 500 and 600 yards The following will represent the Greytown Club:—H. W. Feast, H, R. Feast, J. C. Feast, Guy Rhodes, Geo. Te Whaiti, A. G. Rhodes, C. J. M. Jury. Emergencies: T. Orr, D. J. Flynn, H. C. Trotman, P. J. Nichols, J. B Bairstow. This competition is open to all rifle clubs in the Wairarapa electorate. Scout Committee. There was a good attendance of members at a meeting of the Scout Committee. Owing to the appointment of Mr L. R. Huntley as Group Scoutmaster, he has resigned the presidency, and Mr H. J. Farley has been elected in his stead. Miss E. Gregor is temporarily in charge of the Cubs, and the hope was expressed that she will see her way clear to again accept the position of Cubmaster. The rally at Eketahuna on December 10 received a good deal of discussion, and final arrangements were made for transporting the local bodys. The secretary wishes to acknowledge a donation of £ 1 from Mr R. W. Tate.
