ADDINGTON

LAMB MARKET FINISHES STRONGLY. FULL SCHEDULE RATES.. CHRISTCHURCH, December 7. There was steady competition from export buyers for light medium wethers at tne weekly stock market at Addington today. The market was the first of the season at which they were operating. At the start of the fat lamb sale the demand was keen with the works operating freely at full schedule rates. The sale steadied toward the middle and firmed again, and finished strongly. The trade paid up to 83d for medium-weight prime sorts, and other sorts from about 7|d. Quotations: Extra prime heavy wethers brought to 25s Id; prime heavy, 20s to 23s 6d; prime medium, 18s 3d to 19s 9d; light, to 15s; prime heavy ewes, 16s 6d to 20s 7d; prime medium, 14s to 16s 3d; light, to 9s 6d.

The fat cattle section contained 455 head, against 450 last week, but quality was not up to the usual standard and prices for medium light cows decreased by as mucn as 255. Good steers, however, were better by 10s to 15s. Best beef sold from 39s to 41s a 1001 b. The sale, though erratic, was satisfactory, considering the heavy entry of mediocrities. Quotations: Extra prime heavy steers brought to £l7 17s 6d; prime heavy, £l5 10s to £l6 10s; prime medium, £l4 5s to £l5 10s; light, to £10; extra prime heifers, to £l3 17s 6d; prime, £lO 5s to £HTSs; medium, £8 5s to £10; light, to £8 ss; extra prime cows, to £l2 17s 6d; prime, £8 to £lO 10s; medium, £6 5s to £7 15s; light, to £6. There was a large entry in the fat pig section and as a result there was rather a sharp easing in prices for both porkers and baconers. A small penning of choppers sold at satisfactory prices in comparison with porkers and baconers. Prices: Porkers made 34s 6d to 51s 6d (average price a lb., 63d to 6fd); baconers made £2 17s 6d to £4 12s 6d (average price a lb., 63d to 6Jd).
