What is probably a record for New Zealand is held by Mr J. A. T. Stevens, a member of the Carterton District High School. Mr Stevens was elected a committeeman in 1910, and up till Monday night’s meeting, when he was unavoidably absent, he held the distinction of not having missed a single meeting of the committee in the twenty-eight years. Clean-up Week. The borough employees commenced a clean-up week in the borough this morning and have during the day removed a considerable amount of rubbish to the pit in Brookyn Road. It is hoped householders.will assist the civic authorities in this matter and have a thorough clean-up before the festive season commences. School Ball Arrangements for the annual school fancy’dress ball are well in hand and the function which will take place on Thursday evening promises to be a great success. The headmaster and staff are sparing no pains in the matter of organisation and a supper will be provided which will doubtless delight l children and adults alike. Messrs C. K. Goodin and P. Beere, members of the school committee, wil act as M.’sC. Clay Bird Shooting. Members of the local club are showing considerable enthusiasm and the new venture for Carterton is becoming very popular as is shown by the keen interest displayed at practice. There are several young shots in the club who will shortly have to be reckoned with in big comoetitions.
