At its meeting yesterday the Masterton County Council decided to hold a special meeting next month ; at which the whole future sealing and major road deviation programme of the council will be fully discussed. In the course of a general discussion, the opinion was expressed by several councillors that the Main Highways Board was setting too high a standard on back-country roads and was forcing the council to construct elaborate roads which it could not afford. It was considered that the standard of secondary roads should be determined by the volume of traffic using them.
