MR BEDDING’S DEATH. TRAGIC CIRCUMSTANCES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The death under tragic circumstances occurred at Raumati on Tuesday 'of Mr Thomas M. Bedding, a well-known resident of many years standing in the Paraparaumu district. It was the result of an accident. He left his home early in the morning carrying a pearifle, stating that he was going out after a rabbit that had been doing damage in the garden. Some time later he was found dead with a bullet wound in his head, his rifle having accidentally exploded when he was getting through ' a wire fence. Mr Bedding, who was 64 years of age, took a keen interest in local affairs and did much to advance the interests of the district. He was at one period coqnty clerk and was an expert accountant and auditor. He lived ’for many years at Eketahuna. Mr Bedding was a member of the original Raumati Land Syndicate. He leaves a widow and one son, Mr G. Bedding, Wellington. The funeral took place on Wednesday. Following a service conducted by the Rev. H. Goertz in the Anglican Church, Paraparaumu, the remains, in accordance with a direction in the will, were taken to Wellington for cremation. A masonic service was conducted at the crematorium, Mr Bedding having been a past-master of the Masonic Lodge. Another provision in the will was that the ashes should be taken to sea and consigned to the deep ■at a spot in a line between Mr Bedding’s residence and the south end of Kapiti Island. This final charge was carried out on Wednesday afternoon by a party of eighteen members of the Masonic Lodge and relatives of Mr Bedding. A prayer was offered by the Rev. H. Goertz as the ashes were disposed by the master of the local Masonic Lodge as directed by Br Bedding’s will. Personal. Mr Max Anderson, of the Eketahuna branch of the Bank of New South Wales, who had been on relieving duty in Wellington, has returned to Eketahuna. KAIPARORO RIFLE CLUB. WOLLAND TROPHY CONTEST. Members of the Kaiparoro Rifle Club fired over the 300 yards range to complete a trophy donated by Mr H. Wolland, this being won by Rifleman O. Walton with a total of 188. The scores were:—
J AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB" . ANNUAL MEETING OF MEMBERS. Mr S. Daniel presided at the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr J. Robertson, M.P.; president, Mr S. Daniel; vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Carruthers and W. Simpson; committee, Messrs C. Hausmann, H. E. Rogers, R. Payne, M. Hansen, O. Reynolds, H. Daniel, W. Oldham. R. B. McLellan, C. Cooper. C. Dagg, S. J. O’Regan, K. Marenzi; secretary-treasurer, Mr W. J. Henderson; auditor, Mr C. Hausmann. The question of scarcity of local athletes was discussed. It was stated that Masterton Club members desired to visit Eketahuna at evening meetings provided that local competition was forthcoming. Finally it was decided that Messrs C. Hausmann, Mountjoy, R. Gordon, and M. Hansen be a committee to endeavour to arouse enthusiasm among the youth of the town and district. The rfiembership fee was fixed at 2s 6d for active members and 3s for honourary members. It was decided to hold the annual sports meeting on February 11, if that date were available. The admission to the sports was fixed at Is 6d for adults and 6d for children under 12 years. TENNIS MATCH. WIN FOR HASTWELLS. In a tennis match played at Eketahuna. the Hastwells team defeated the local representatives by eighteen sets to six.
