WAIRARAPA RACING CLUB.' ' . MEETING OF STEWARDS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The President, Mr J. W. Card, occupied the chair at the monthly meeting ■ of Stewards on Thursday, others pre- • sent being—Messrs D. Cameron, R. - Donald, T. Benton, R. A. Donald, E. D. ’ Martin. C. J. Nix, D. H. S. Riddiford, ■ and the secretary, N. C. C. Shepherd. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs A. C. Pearce, J. F. Thompson, R. N. Barton and H. Lawson. The secretary reported receipts since last meeting £l9B 19s 2d and accounts . amounting to £l6B 18s 9d were passed for payment. Acknowledgement of receipt of expressions of sympathy were received from the families of the late Hon A. D. McLeod and Q. Donald. An application for an apprentice jockey’s license from John David Ahipene, who will enter the stable of trainer H. P. Reed, was recommended. The tenders of H. B. Thomas and Co, Masterton, for supply of meat, and The Wairarapa Ice Cream Co, Masterton, for the soft drinks and fancy stall were accepted. The chairman reported that 36 garden seats had been ordered for delivery before New Year. To fill the vacancies caused by Messrs A. C. Pearce and D. H. S. Riddiford being appointed Vice-president, the meeting appoint Messrs E. R. W. Bidwill and J. S. Donald as stewards. The former will go on the “at start” sub-committee, and the latter on “Horses out.” The chairman of the Course Committee reported that the loading bank at the stables on the course would be constructed in time for the coming meeting, also that provision was being made for the supply of hot water in all the booths. Nominations for the New Year meeting close on December 14. Farewell Social. The members of the Presbyterian Church tendered a farewell social on Thursday evening to Mr D. C. Kubblewhite, who will leave the district Shortly. The following items were rendered; —Songs, “The Garden of Your Heart” and “Loves Old Sweet Song,” Mrs R. Skipage; piano solos, Mr J. Buck; songs, “Home on the Range” and “Long Live the King,” Mr Herbert Clark; songs, “Absent” and “Until,” Mrs Houston; songs, “Road to the Isles” and “Grainder’s Highland Home,” Mr D. Robertson. The accom-i paniments were played by Mrs Archie Clark. L..
Mr Mitchell Tait and Mr George Yule, managers of the church, gave some interesting early history of the church and spoke of the great assistance Mr Kibblewhite had been with his advice, which, had helped to put the church on a sound financial footing. They extended the best wishes of the congregation for his future welfare. Mrs Archie Clark, on behalf of the members of the P.W.M.U., in a neat speech, expressed sincere thanks and appreciation for the help which Mr Kibblewhite had given for many years auditing their books. “He has always unerringly placed the stray pennies which had defied balancing, in their correct columns,” she said. “He had always been so obliging with cheques and banking and helpful in every way.” She wished Mr Kibblewhite the best of luck in his new home.
The Rev. R. S. Keenan spoke for the congregation, and said how dependable Mr Kibblewhite had been. He was a regular attendant at church. He praised his promptness with the balance sheet and appreciated the work done by Mr Kibblewhite during Mr Keenan’s ministry. Mr Keenan then asked Mr Kibblewhite to accept an inscribed gold wristlet watch, as a small token of esteem with the best wishes from, members of the Presbyterian Church. Mr Kibblewhite, who was accorded musical honours, said it had been a pleasure to work with such loyal men and women. He asked the young men to step forward and help in the church work. He thanked them all for their gift and good wishes. After the singing of the Doxology a tasty supper was served which concluded a pleasant function. Boy Scouts. The quarterly meeting of the Boy Scouts’ Committee was held on Thursday night, Mr A. Cook being in the chair. There were also present: Mesdames Halpin, Saunders, Misses Fellingham and Hayes; Messrs Fellingham and Halpin. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Fellingham, Houston, H. Clark, the Revs. J. Holland. R. S. Keenan and Mr H. Clark. Miss A. Fellingham presented her Cub report, and Mr P. Clark his troop report. These were read and adopted. It was decided that Miss A. Fellingham's warrant as assistant Cubmaster be applied for, and also that Miss M. Hayes be appointed games instructor to the Cub pack. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Schools Committee complaining of the untidy state of the gymnasium hall, and that the Scoutmaster donate £1 of Scout Magazine Fund to the Gladstone Maori Cub pack for the purchase of uniforms. Arrangements were made for the transport of boys to the district Scout Rally to be held in Eketahuna on December’ 10. Mr Hayes was elected to the committee. 1 Euchre Tournament and Dance. There was a good attendance at the South Featherston euchre tournament and dance held on Thursday night. The euchre winners were: — Ladies: Mrs A. Gain, 1; Miss Simmonds, 2. Men: Mr C. Bain, 1; Mr W. Cuff. 2. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr R. Lawrence and Miss P. Gain. Croquet Club. The following are the results of games played by the Featherston Croquet Club: —McKenzie brooches: Mesdames O'Neale and Thompson beat Mesdames L. Benton and Johns, 26 to 24. Matthews Cup: Miss Williams beat Mrs Holland, 26 to 18; Mrs Saunders beat Miss Williams, 26 to 20.
