RACING C.LUB MEETING. ALTERATIONS TO BUILDINGS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the CaHerton Racing Club was held in the A. and P. Society’s board room last evening. There were present Mr L. H. Smart (vice-president) in the chair. Messrs P. A. Cole, Geo. A. Vincent, J. Johnson, E. J. Matson, H. J. Brown, R. G. Kemble, A. O. Abbott. G. H. Eaton, C. Jensen, and the secretary, Mr J. B. Bairstow. Correspondence was received from the secretary, New Zealand Racing Conference, regarding the Duke of Gloucester Cup race, applications for which are required by the conference for the 1939-40 racing season. After discussion it was decided-that the letter be received, as it was thought that it would be almost impossible to obtain gentlemen riders for the event on a Carterton Racing Club programme. A letter was received from Mr H. Judd, a trustee to the club, regarding matters relating to the sale of land by the club to the Public Works Department, and notifying that as he was resident of Waipukurau he was out of touch with the affairs of the club. The chairman said it seemed to him that Mr Judd’s position should be revised. He moved that Mr Judd be thanked for his services and that the club appoint a trustee in his stead, as he was now not resident in the district. The motion was carried. A letter was received from the Clareville Cricket Club thanking the Racing Club for the use of a cricket pitch on the grounds last season. Mr H. A. Truman, Government sanitary inspector, notified the club of necessary alterations to buildings to comply with the law. The alterations are to be made prior to the annual race meeting next year. After discussion it was resolved that the secretary write to Mr Truman asking him to meet the committee on the course on a date to be fixed by him, to go fully into the matter. The treasurer reported a debit balance at the bank of £517 17s lid. The receipts since the last meeting were £lB 19s. Accounts amounted to £1 19s 4d and were passed for payment.
