FEATURES OF DECEMBER ISSUE. A_ wide variety of special features □nd seventy pictures are in the December issue of the New Zealand Railways Mazagine. James Cowan, a wellknown writer on Maori subjects, throws a new light on the famous warrior Te Kooti, who is described as a popular hero still among many tribes. The Writer quotes evidence to support his claim that Te Kooti was made a rebel by injustice. Nature lovers will be very pleased with an excellent illustrated article by T. D. Taylor on •Historic Kapiti,” which is now a sanctuary for native birds. Ken Alexander afters some amusing notions on Christmas with several comic drawings. Stirring adventures of the old whaling and sealing days in New Zealand waters are recalled by C. H. Gordon in a well written treatise “The Vigorous Enderbys.” Isobel Andrews delightfully takes her readers on a cruise among the romantic isles of the Bay of Islands. O. N. Gillespie brightly faces the evolution of the “Railways Magazine” from a “house-organ” of twelve years ago to the stage of a well illustrated national monthly. In “Queer Trials,” C. A. L. Treadwell brings back dramatic court scenes of long ago. Other features include Nellie Donovan’s pleasing contribution to the “Dream Places” series, a special feature for women, a chat on books and New Zealand verse, and notes and comments on field sports.
