IRISH DISORDERS
EPISODE AT FUNERAL. VOLLEY FIRED IN DEFIANCE OF POLICE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, December 2. The funeral of James Reynolds, one of the victims of the Castle Finn explosion when customs houses were blown up, led to an encounter between armed detectives and members of the Irish Republican Army. Echoes of the “Last Post” had barely died out when six men armed with rifles approached in order to fire a volley over the grave. Detectives rushed forward, but failed to prevent the firing, which attracted 40 uniformed Civil Guards. The mourners took panic, women fainted and 1000 members of the Republican Army blocked detectives as the six men escaped.
