HEALTH STAMPS
MASTERTON SALES PRACTICALLY NIL. MEETING OF COMMITTEE LIKELY. Sales of health stamps at the Masterton Post Office in November amounted to £l, a very poor return indeed. Up to the end of last month the total receipts in Masterton since the stamps, have been placed on sale amounted to £32. It is likely that a meeting of the Masterton Health Camp Committee will be held in the immediately future to consider means to increase the sales. It has been suggested that a canvasser could be employed, as had been done elsewhere, on a commission basis, as it is considered that a substantial sum could be raised for the funds in this way without entailing any expense. A donation of £1 Is to the fund is acknowledged from the Wairarapa High School Old Girls’ Association. From figures supplied by the Post Office it is apparent that the response of the public has been much more generous in other parts of New Zealand than it has been in Masterton. In the week ended November 23 the finance of Health Camps benefited from stamp sales and donations to the extent of £656 16s 8d —a remarkable achievement for one week.
Over three-quarters of a million Health stamps have been sold, with the result that the movement in aid of the children is already assured of £3715 16s Id. This sum falls considerably short of the total required to meet the cost of the maintenance of over 4000 children in the Health Camps; but there are ample opportunities left for further public generosity through the easy medium of the “Penny for Postage, Penny for Health” method.
