PERSONAL ITEMS.
A South Island visitor to Pongaroa is Mrs F. Walker. Miss C. McMaster, of Church Street, Masterton, is visiting Wellington. Mrs H. Miller, who has been on a visit to Masterton, has returned to Auckland. Sister M. Coombridge, Matron of the Pongaroa Cottage Hospital, is on a visit to Hamilton. Mrs A. J. Burnes, of Ohariu Valley, is the guest of Mrs D. Brosnahan, of Konini. Mrs Angus Stewart, who has been on a motor tour of the North Island, has returned to Nireaha. Mrs Christie, of Nireaha, has her daughter, Mrs N. E. Blomfield, of Hamilton, staying with her. Mrs J. E. Welch, of Morrinsville, who had been the guest of Mrs R. L. Darley. Pahiatua, has returned home. Mrs G. T. Smith has returned to Pongaroa from a visit to Te Rehunga, where she was the guest of Mrs R. Gray.
Mrs H. Hawthorne, president of the Wellington provincial executive of the W.D.F.U., will leave by the Mariposa in the middle of December for Hawaii, where she will spend three months. Two well-known Wellington medical families were united yesterday afternoon by the marriage at Trentham of Alison Mary, eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs J. Harold Kemp, Horsham, Sussex, England (and formerly of Wellington), and John Eaton, only son of Dr. and Mrs H. Hardwick-Smith, Welington. Only one toast was honoured—to “Alison and John,” but in drinking it, the guests Were asked to think of many relatives who were unable to be present, specially the mother and father of the bride, who are in England. A very pleasant gift evening was held at the* Nurses’ Home, Greytown, when to mark her approaching marriage, Nurse M. Gartley was the guest of honour. Dance music was supplied by Messrs L. Daysh, S. Te Tau and W. Dunn, and Mr R. Ingley played the extras. Mr C. Smitn returned thanks on behalf of Miss Gartley for the many beautiful gifts received. Prior to Miss Gartley severing her connection with the hospital staff she was presented with a crystal salad bowl.
At St Peter’s Anglican Church, Pahiatua, recently Miss Ruth Mary Ann Hind, second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr H. Hind, of St Johnswood, Hinemoa, was married to Mr Thomas Sedcole Chamberlain, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs T. Chamberlain, of Wellington. The Rev L. Ives, of Eketahuna, officiated, and the organist was Mrs Bick, of Pahiatua. The bridesmaid was Miss Joyce Checkley, and the flower girls were Betty and Marie Brown. Colin Brown was the page boy. _ The best man was Mr Frank Chamberlain, of, Wellington, and Messrs Tom Checkley, of Hinemoa, and S. Davenport, of Ruawhata, Were the ushers. ENGAGEMENT. The engagement is announced of Elna, second daughter of Mrs and the late Mr M. Simonsen, Masterton, to Colin Haig, youngest son of Mrs and the late Mr D. T. Stewart, formerly of “Birchbank,” Orari,- South Canterbury.
