GOLF YEAR
MASTERTON CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING
SOME SUBSCRIPTION RATES INCREASED. IMPROVEMENTS TO THE LINKS. There was a fairly large attendance of the Masterton Golf Club at the annual meeting, which was held in the A, and P. Rooms last evening. The president, Mr G. W. Sellar, occupied the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, Mr Sellar said they could congratulate the club on its activities during the year. Notwithstanding that they showed a loss of £l3l 19s lid, the year had been quite . a good one. The loss had been occasioned in part by a drop of £67 in subscriptions, and £36 in entrance fees. They were rather looking forward to seeing these items increased this coming year, especially as they had instituted summer golf. Mr Sellar said he thought they would find, as the result of these facilities, that quite a number of the members of neighbouring golf clubs would join up with the Masterton Club next year. After referring to other items of expenditure, Mr Sellar thought they could regard the past year as having been a satisfactory one, though they would have to get extra members and build up their receipts from that source to what it was in previous years. During the year the committee had worked very hard and the greenkeeper had done his job. Quite a lot of improvements had been carried' out to the course and members would derive the benefit of these next year. He was quite satisfied that with the increased popularity of golf the membership and subscriptions would grow. Officers were elected as follow:— Men: President —Mr G. W. Sellar; vice-presidents —Messrs H. P. . Hugo and W. H. Robieson; club captain—Mr C C Marsack; committee —Messrs N. f’ Blundell, C. C. Heard, E. Henderson, J V. Gordon, W. E. Holdgate, J. E. Jenkins, G. M. Ross; hon secretary—Mr D. T. Herbert; hon treasurer —Mr F. M. Cunningham; hon auditor Mr W. M. Sellar. Ladies: President —Mrs G. W. Sellar; vice-president—Mrs N. H. Prior; club captain—Miss R. Murray; committee— Mesdames R. R. Burridge, F. M. Cunningham, H. H. Daniell, P. F. Fagan, B. P. Perry, R. Plummer and Miss D. Todd; hon secretary—Mrs A. J. Drew. Mr Sellar expressed the appreciation of members of the splendid services rendered by both secretaries, Mrs Drew and Mr Herbert. Mr Herbert expressed his thanks to Mr Ross for the assistance he had given him during the year. There was considerable discussion on.a motion in respect to the subscription rates for junior and country members. The subscriptions finally decided upon were: Men, junior members (under 18) £3 3s (with full playing privileges); junior members (under 18), £2 2s (without full playing privileges); junior members (18 to 20), £4 4s; country members £5 ss. Ladies: Junior members (under 18), £2 2s; junior members (18 to 20), £3 3s; country members, £3 3s. It was decided to revert to the old system of playing qualifying rounds on Saturdays. The meeting agreed that the club should take out an insurance policy in respect to players and others on the links, the fee to be added to the members’ subscriptions.
It was decided to hand over the catering arrangements on opening and closing days to the club custodian. Proposals for an improved lay-out of the links were referred to the incoming committee.
