MESSINA EARTHQUAKE
(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln your issue of November 28, there was a statement with reference to the earthquake in Messina in ’.he year 1908. I wish to state that everything in that statement was correct. I happened to arrive in the Straits of Messina 24 hours after the shake, and it resembled a huge brickfield, with one exception. In the distance you could see, above all the waste, standing majestically, a church steeple, and notwithstanding all this destruction some people were still selling wine on the waterfront. —Yours, etc., T. McNAMARA. Masterton, November 30.
