CULT OF THE KILT
AND THE SAINT ANDREW SOCIETY USE ON SCOTTISH OCCASIONS. Among those who were unable to attend the Saint Andrew Society’s concert on St Andrew’s night was Mr Samuel Tinsley, of Edinburgh, who is at present on a visit to New Zealand. Mr Tinsley is a member of the Scottish Kilt Society, whose members are pledged to wear the kilt on all occasions. Mr Tinsley wrote expressing his regret at being unable to attend, and his good wishes for the success of the gathering. It had been hoped that he would be able to say a few words to the audience in reference to the objects of his so-
ciety. The success of the efforts of the Saint Andrew Society to encourage the use of the kilt on all Scottish occasions was evident at the concert on Wednesday evening. The society has, however, not gone so far as to advocate the use of the kilt at any gathering other than those associated with the activities of the society.
