THEFT ADMITTED
THEATRE MANAGER PLEADS GUILTY. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Charged with the theft of a total sum of £lO6 15s, the property of the J. C. Williamson Corporation Ltd, while employed as a servant of that company, Cyril Kempt, theatre manager, aged 28, pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence. There were three charges. Accused who was manager of a Kilbirnie theatre, in a statement to the police admitted retaining the money for his own use. The reason for his lapses was ihat. he lord a great deal of money through playing cards. . He had since played cards and backed horsey- in order to recoup his losses. He had not used the money in paying debts, but in playing cards in order to get money to pay debts. At one time he owed £200.’ It was stated that he went of his own free will to executive officers of the company and made a voluntary confession.
