Merinos are slightly easier, fine crossbreds unchanged and medium and coarse crossbreds 5 per cent dearer. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from theit - London agents, dated November 22: — The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers. There was good competition, particularly for greasy crossbreds, and as at present arranged, the sales will close on December 7. Compared with the closing rates of last sale, we quote:—Fine halfbreds, 50/56’s, no change; extra fine crossbreds, 48/50’s, Id to gd higher; fine crossbreds, 46/48’s, -Jd to Jd higher; medium crossbreds, 44/46’s, id to -Id higher; coaYse crossbreds, 40/44’s. id to -Id higher; low crossbreds, 36/40’s, Id to Id higher; slipes, half bred lambs, unchanged; slipe, medium and coarse, Id higher. At the wool sales 9441 bales were offered, including 3096 from New Zealand, and 7940 were sold. There was a fairly good selection and keen competition, scoured Merinos and crossbreds being in best demand. Greasy Merinos were largely withdrawn, owing to the absence of Continental support. Merinos were at par while crossbreds and slipes were at par to 5 per cent higher compared with the close of the last series. ______ OLYMPIC GAMES HELSINKI PROGRAMME. The 1940 Olympic Games will comprise 132 events, of which 33 are athletic, 9 gymnastics, 16 swimming, 7 rowing, 4 sailing, 9 canoe racing, 14 wrestling, 4 weight-lifting, 8 boxing, 5 shooting, 7 fencing, 6 riding, 5 cycling, and 2 gliding, also football and modern pentathlon. Omissions as compared with the Berlin Games programme are handball, basketball, polo and hockey. New events are a 10,000 metres walk, women’s weight-putting, women’s long jump, and women’s 200 metres.
