♦ AIR EXPANSION IN UNITED STATES FORCE OF 12,000 PLANES AIMED AT. TWENTY-FOUR HOUR SHIFTS IN FACTORIES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK,- November 22. The Washington correspondent of the “New York Herald Tribune” states that the Administration is so anxious to make a display of American military strength that it has virtually decided to compress the air expansion programme into two years. The objective is 9000 planes for the army and 3000 for the navy. The subdivision of every aircraft manufacturing plant in the country will run 24houi- shifts. The Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Morgenthau, indicated teat a sizeable plan was under consideration by the announcement that he is drafting tax proposals to await President Roosevelt’s final, decision on defence. It is anticipated that the Budget next January will exceed 8,000,000,000 dollars.
