FAST AIR LINER
NEW MACHINE ORDERED IN BRITAIN INTENDED FOR SOUTH ATLANTIC. LONDON’TO RIO IN TWO DAYS. (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, November 22. The Air Ministry has ordered a fourengined 30-passenger, all-metal airliner from the Fairey Aviation Company designed to cruise at 220 to 250 miles an hour, with a maximum speed of 275 miles an hour. The machine is intended for the South Atlantic service now being organized by British Airways. It is hoped that it will bring Rio de Janiero within two days of London. Sir Francis Sheldermine, DirectorGeneral of Civil Aviation, stated that he expected that machines of this type would be in production by 1940. They are intended to meet the requirements of civil aviation in England and the Dominions.
