MASTERTON COLLIE CLUB
PAST YEAR’S OPERATIONS. The following is the annual report of the president (Mr J. M. James) in connection with the operations of the Masterton Collie Club for the past year:—The finance of the Club remains quite satisfactory. Although the nett profit for the year’(£ls,os 3d) is lower than usual, this can be accounted forto a large extent by the considerable increase in prize money. Our membership remains on a par with last year, but your Committee feels there is still much room for improvement. Although entries this year for the trials showed a slight decrease, 106 against 119, the Trials generally must be considered quite satisfactory. The Club is grateful to Mr Tait, who so ably carried out the duties of judge; to the very efficient Working Committee, and to outside competitors, who helped materially toward the success of the meeting. Our annual dance again proved very popular and must be considered highly successful, both socially and financially. It is with very deep regret we record the death of our late Patron, Mr A. P. Whatman, and also Mr J. G. McDonald, a member of this Club for many years. Mr Whatman, although Patron of the Club for only a short period, was a benefactor to all sports bodies, and his willing help and true sportsmanship will be sadly missed. Mr J. G. McDonald was one of the oldest competitors at dog trials in New.-Zealand, and by his genial personality and true sportsmanship, became one of the most popular. The deepest sympathy of the Club is extended to the relatives of both the late Mr Whatman and Mr McDonald. We again express our thanks to Mr Geo Shaw for the use of his grounds; to Mr John McKay, for the use of holding paddocks; and to Mr C. J. Bennett for again supplying sheep for the trials. Our special thanks are due to the Ladies’ Committee for supplying refreshments at the Trials, and also for their untiring efforts in connection with the dance. We also express our thanks to the Press; to Mr S. Campbell, Honorary Auditor; to donors of special prizes; and to all who assisted in any way in making the Trials the success they were. I
