BOATING FATALITY

MAN DROWNED AT NELSON. BRAVE ATTEMPT AT RESCUE MADE BY SON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, This Day. Although heroic attempts were made by his son, aged 16, to save him, William Homan was drowned near the Maori Pa on Saturday, when a flatbottomed boat, in which he was fishing, ovenurned in a heavy swell. The son swam ashore and then returned with a line to his father. The boy held up his father till his own strength gave out He himself had to be helped ashore. Two spectators got the father to land, but he was found to be dead. Mr Homan was a married man, aged 47, with eight children. At an inquest the Coroner, Mr F. E. Maunsell, S.M. commended ,-he sen’s bravery in his attem.pt to save bis faiher’s life. A verdict of accidental drowning was returned.
