HOMING PIGEONS

MASTERTON CLUB.

TWO LONG DISTANCE RACES.

The Masterton .Homing Pigeon Club flew two races recently, one being from Mercer (253 miles airline) and the ether from Waiotira (400 miles airline). The birds from Mercer were liberated in fine weather with a side wind from the west, and put up good times. The first six placings for club points were: —V. H. Stears’s “Climax” (6 hours 5 minutes 30 seconds), 1; W.Steer’s “Lady Baron” (6.5.38), 2; W. J. Miller, “Bonny Doon” (6.6.4.), 3; W. Steer’s “Tomtom” (6.6.23), 4; A. Miller’s “Master Bricoux” (6.6.37) 5; F. Harding’s “War Cloud” (6.6.52), 6. The other race was to have been from Helensville but the birds were overcarried 100 miles by the railway, and liberated at Waiotira instead, making it a 400 miles race instead of 300 miles. The birds evidently encountered heavy weather as they were cn the wing for eleven hours. The first six placings were: —J. Wickens’s “Black Thread” (11 hours 9 minutes 12 seconds), 1; J. Wickens’s “Windsor Chief” (11.9.23), 2; W. Steer’s “Black Rajah” (11110.7), 3: F. Harding’s “Colossus” (11.10.23), 4; W. J. Miller, "Bon Speck” (11.10.35), 5; A. Miller’s "Passion Fruit” (11.11.27), 6.
