KAHUTARA SOCIAL CLUB. ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Kahutara Social Club held its fortnightly dance and euchre party on Saturday night when there was a large attendance. The winners of the euchre were: —Ladies: Mrs R. Chisholm, 1; Mrs Riki, 2. Men: Mr Feast, 1; Mr Matinga, 2. Accident at Mill. A tree fell on Mr Howard Hooper on Friday while working at a mill, breaking his arm. He is now in the Greytown Hospital where he is progressing favourably. Sky Illuminated. On Saturday night between 8 o’clock and 9 o’clock the sky in the east was richly illuminated by prolonged flashes of lightning which held the interest of those who witnessed it. Shortly afterwards there was a very heavy downpour of rain, and this continued throughout the night, the weather clearing up early on Sunday morning. Personals. Messrs R. N. and E. F. Barton and Mr H. Lawson, left today for the Sounds, where they will spend a few days fishing. There was quite an influx of visitors to Featherston on Sunday, amongst whom where Miss Elsie Smith (Lower Hutt), Miss Magaret Lawson, lan Carlyon, John Roper, Wellington, and Mr Tom Duffy, Martinborough. The rain was badly needed for afterseveral days of hot dry winds, the country was becoming fairly dry. RIFLE CLUB COMPETITION. WON BY L. G. BENTON. The Featherston Defence Rifle Club held a competition on Saturday for the Williams and Bidwill cups, the scores being as follows: — 300 600 600 Tl.
Next Saturday’s competition will be for L. G. Benton’s trophy, the distances being 300 yards, 500 yards and 600 ydrds.
