GREYTOWN

RIFLE CLUB COMPETITION. BALFOUR AND TE WHAITI CUPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The competition for the Balfour and Te Whaiti Cups was continued at the Papawai Range on Saturday afternoon. A double- shoot of 10 shots at 600 yards was fired. The weather conditions were not good, there being a dull light and changing wind. Scores of 46 were made by A. G. Rhodes, H. C. Trotman and G. Te Whaiti. The best total off the rifle was made by A. G. Rhodes. 91 points. Scores:—

Spoon winner: A. G. Rhodes. Next Saturday the competition will be continued with two shoots at the 900 yards range. Bowling. The Greytown green was well patronised on Saturday afternoon when a start was made with club competitions. In the handicap singles McLeod beat Burden; Day beat Best; Carter beat Maloney; Kenning beat Brunton; Allison beat Kilgour. Playing for the Dennes Challenge Medal, Connolly beat Kilgour. Cantata by Choirs. There was a large attendance at St. Luke's Church on Sunday evening, when the combined choirs of Carterton and Greytown , rendered the cantata, “Shepherd of Men,” The conductor was Mr J. Harris and Miss Irwin was at the piano. Personal. Messrs J. and B. Kiernan returned to Greytown yesterday after a holiday spent at Dunedin, where they attended the N.Z. golf championships tournament. ' Mr A. T. Holson, the driver of the military lorry which crashed through a bridge near Taihape on Saturday, when’three men were killed and eight injured, and who had a finger broken and is suffering from shock, was a former resident of Greytown. He left here two years, ago to join the permanent military staff. His parents reside in the Main Street.
