DEPARTING BOWLER
HONOURED BY PARK CLUB PRESENTATION TO MR WALLACE Having received notice of his transfer to Wellington the president of the Masterton Bowling Club, Mr R. Wallace has resigned his position, and on Monday evening the members of the club tendered him a farewell social in the pavilion. There was a record attendance. the chair being occupied by Mr G. Dagg (vice-president). In proposing the toast of the guest of the evening, the chairman voiced the regret felt by every member of the club when they heard of the president’s transfer. “Mr Wallace,” said Mr Dagg, “has always proved a tower of strength to the club. Never a talker, but a man who would always prefer to do something for the club rather than speak about it. The tact with which he dealt with the various little difficulties left everybody satisfied with his decisions, with no one offended.” After several other speakers had endorsed the chairman’s remarks and paid their tribute to Mr Wallace, Mr Dagg on behalf of the club, presented the retiring president with a leather bowl bag, and expressed the hope that Mr Willace would use it for very many years, and would find opportunities in the near future to bring his bowls in it to the Park green. Upon rising to reply Mr Wallace was greeted with cheers. After thanking. Mr Dagg and the other speakers for their kind remarks, Mr Wallace expressed his appreciation at the large attendance. “No one regrets more than I do,” he remarked, “that I have been compelled to sever my connections with the Park. Club. I will always look back upon this period, anc more particularly upon the last year as some of the happiest days of mj life. I have received nothing but kindness from every member of the Club and to all who have helped me eithei as members of working bees, as fellow officials, or by friendly criticism or advice I tender my sincere thanks and ap preciation.” Mr Wallace thanked th< club for their presentations and expressed his determination to make ful' use of it. After several other toasts had bcei honoured the singing of “Auld Lan; Syne” brought a very pleasant func tion to a close.
