Noxious Weed Menace.
“Hemlock is becoming as great a menace as ragwort,” said Cr. T. B. MacDonald during a discussion on the noxious weed menace at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council. Cr MacDonald said he thought the Department of Agriculture should tell ihe public something about hemlock, as he understood the seeds were poisonous to human beings as well as animals. Cr. E. H. Beamish said that unfortunately the Government was only playing with the problem of noxious weeds. Practically nothing was being done and trouble was bound to come sooner or later. The formulation of a comprehensive policy was overdue. The chairman, Cr. C. Smith, said the Government was the proper body to deal with noxious weeds. Crown lands were breeding grounds for weeds ot all kinds.
