MASTERTON BOROUGH

RESIGNATION OF TOWN CLERK. TRIBUTES TO LOYAL SERVICE. The resignation of Mr T. T. Denbee, who has been Town Clerk to the Masterton Borough Council since 1920, was accepted with regret at last night’s meeting of the council and it was decided to place on record appreciation of his loyal services over a long period of years. “This is the beginning of a parting,” observed the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, who said he would like to express sincere appreciation of Mr Denbee’s services to the borough over a long period of years —services carried out conscientiously and loyally through thick and thin. “I would like to thank him for his patience with me,” said the Mayor. “He never retaliated and was always the personification of willingness and agreeableness.” Mr Jordan moved that the resignation be accepted with regret and that appreciation be placed on record of Mr Denbee’s conscientious and loyal services rendered to the Corporation over a long period of years. The motion was seconded and carried after the Deputy-Mayor, Councillor W. White, had associated himself with the remarks of the Mayor.

After thanking Mr Jordan for his kind remarks, Mr Denbee said he had always been aware of limitations and shortcomings, but right throughout his career he had always given of his best in the interests of the ratepayers and the council he served. That thought was of very real moment at this stage. In three weeks he would be 70 years of age and he had reached the stage when he wanted to sit back and enjoy the evensong of his life in peace of body and mind. To the Mayor and councillors he wished to extend his very sincere thanks for many acts of forbearance and help and (numerable acts of kindness. After some discussion, it was agreed to advertise the position of Town Clerk at a commencing salary of £6OO and a maximum of £7OO. The conditions of appointment are to be drawn up by a committee consisting of the Mayor, Councillors G. D. Wilson, A. D. Low and W. Kemp.
