TARARUA RIFLE CLUB. ROSE BOWL COMPETITION. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Tararua Rifle Club held the second competition for the Ladies’ Rose Bowl on Saturday. A strong north-west wind was blowing at times which made shooting difficult. The scores were:—

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. RONGOKOKAKO BIRTHDAY. For the celebration of its third birthday, members of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute decorated the. Hall most beautifully, great bowls of apple blossom and rhododendron being used. The attendance was confined to members of the home Institute and business was quickly disposed of, Miss A. Schultz presiding. Miss Elsie Sigvertsen won the best flower competition with an oriental poppy, Mrs Baucke, with a rose, was second and Miss A. Schultz third with a tulip. The best-ironed shirt resulted: Miss M. Sigvertsen 1, Mrs O’Neil 2. In the junior section the,best dressed doll was awarded to Elsie Sigvertsen 1, Dorrie Nagel 2, Phyllis Littler 3 and the skill competition to Mrs J. Drysdale 1, Mrs O’Neill 2. The hostesses were Mrs and Miss Littler who provided a lovely afternoon tea.

The handsome birthday cake was made by Miss A. Schultz and iced by Mrs J. Payne. Posies were presented to Miss Schultz and Mrs Cooper as office bearers and Mesdames O’Neill and Payne in appreciation of their work during the year. In the evening there was a good attendance in the Hall when the celebrations were continued. Music was supplied by Miss V. Edge and Mr D. Thompson. Mr F. Sigvertsen was M.C. The novelty dances were won by Mr and Mrs Payne and Miss J. Sorrensen and Mr Walker. - A competition was won by Mr Harry Payne. Cricket Match. In a cricket match played at Putara, the Rongomai team defeated Putara by 113 runs. Rongomai scored 37 (Stevenson 14, McKeown, not out 13; Byers 5 for 3) and 129 (Stevenson 63, P. Payne 22, Bruntpn 20, Twentyman 11; Byers 6 for 25, and Putara compiled, 33 (Biddis, not out 29; Stevenson 6 for 3, Payne 4 for 4) and 20 (Payne 2 for 3, Twentyman 2 for 7, Morrison 1 for 1, Rew 1 for 2, Stevenson 1 for 7).
