PAPAL THRONE

SET ON FIRE BY CANDLES. INCIDENT IN ST PETER’S. VATICAN CITY, November 14. After the beautification of Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini, of Chicago, at St Peter’s Church this morning in the presence of 55,000 people, the Pope was being carried in a procession this afternoon in order to venerate- her when the casing of the Papal Throne began to smoulder. The heat of hundreds of candles is believed to have been responsible. Attendants watched until the congregation departed, after which firemen extinguished the flames. The decorations were damaged, but there was no panic.
