Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Galway left Wellington last evening for Lyttelton en route for Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika and other towns on the West Coast.
Mr J. Roberts, who has been on a visit to Masterton, left today on his return to Rotorua.
Mr and Mrs S. W. Smith, The Terrace, Lansdowne, have returned from a visit to Hastings. The Hon W. E. Parry, Minister oi Internal Affairs, returned to Wellington from the north last evening. The Hon W. Lee Martin, Minister of Agriculture, returned to Wellington from the South Auckland district yesterday.
Mr T. Jordan (Mayor of Masterton) has accepted an invitation from the Board of .Governors of Wellington College to be the principal speaker at the annual prize-giving ceremony of the College on December 15. Mrs Jordan has been asked to present the prizes. Mr Jordan is a former dux of the College, and was a master there for eleven years.
The death occurred on Sunday of Mrs Rangimaru Ratana, wife of Mr H. T. Ratana, M.P., for the Western Maori electorate. Mrs Ratana was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Terarau Negia, formerly of Parakino, and a direct descendant of Rena Maikuku, chieftainess. of Ngati-Pakiahu Whanganui, and of Honi Tumango, a well-known Maori chief. She died at Ratana pa after an illness lasting several months. She was a helpful partner to her husband in Parliamentary election periods. A representative Wanganui hockey player, she did much to foster the game as a member- of the Ratana women’s team. Mrs Ratana is survived by her husband, a son, aged two, and a daughter aged three months.
