THROWS AMMONIA IN YOUTH’S FACE EPISODE ON FRIDAY NIGHT AT PETONE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Two young men, returning home through the Petone Recreation Grounds on Friday night, were rather perturbed by the suspicious movements of a man hovering close by. Eventually they decided to investigate and chased and caught up with him. The man raised his hands, in which was what looked like a handkerchief.

One of the youths thought the raising of hands was an invitation to fight and approached, but almost immediately collapsed to the ground. The man disappeared in the misty rain. At the police station it was found that the youth had had ammonia thrown in his face. Apparently he got the full force of it in his mouth, which was badly burned. In addition, his eyes were in a bad state for some hours. . .
