Abraham and Chana Grynszpan, uncle and aunt of Herschel Grynszpan, were arrested again, the charge of complicity in the murder of Dr von Rath having been replaced by a charge of harbouring an undesirable, in order to enable them to be imprisoned for more than five days. 'M. Bonnet, Foreign Minister, and other members of the Government, attended Dr von Rath’s funeral service at the Lutheran Church. Herr Hitler’s delegate paid a tribute to France’s attitude. Germans shouted “Heil Hitler” as the victim’s parents entered. The Garde Republicaine furnished a guard of honour. The remains have been sent to Dusseldorf for burial. British criticism of the anti-Jewish rioting is arousing angry comment, especially a report that (Mr Attlee, Leader of the Opposition, will ask questions in the House of Commons on November 14 concerning the rioting. The Official News Agency declares that, if German action is discussed in the House ~ot Commons, Germany is justified in debating British action in Palestine in the Reichstag involving British atrocities and the British lust for destruction, contrasting it with the few broken window panes and the few burnt synagogues in Germany. Herr Jury, regional leader of Lower Austria, declares that the Catholic problem will be solved with the same consequences as the Jewish problem.
CALL FOR PRAYERS ARCHBISHOP CONDEMNS POGROMS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. November 12. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Lang, in a letter to ‘'The Times,” expresses the feelings of indignation, with which he claims, Christians in Britain “read of the deeds of cruelty and destruction which were perpetrated on Thursday in Germany and Austria.” Adding that whatever provocation may have been given by the deplorable act of a single irresponsible Jewish youth, reprisals on such a scale, so fierce, cruel and vindictive, could not possibly have been justified, Dr Lang calls for remembrance in prayers offered in the churches tomorrow of those who suffered this fresh onset of persecution.
