KNOX SUNDAY SCHOOL

ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. Anniversary services in connection with Knox Sunday School were held in Knox Church yesterday. The church was filled to overflowing at the morning service, which was conducted by the Rev Alan Gardner, L.Th., of St James Church, Wellington. The congregation included members of the Legion of Frontiersmen and the Wairarapa College Pipe Band.

The interior of the church was beautifully decorated with a profusion of flowers and an outstanding feature was the inscription “71st Anniversary” artistically worked in tinted leaves. For several weeks past the children have been practising assiduously and their meritorious performance throughout yesterday’s services testified to the careful training received at the hands of Mr G. Masters, assisted by Miss Stubbings. The items included scripture recitations, choruses, duets, solos and part songs. Special mention should be made of the performance of the children in the primary department, under Miss McGregor, who acquitted themselves most creditably. The pianoforte accompaniments were played by Miss Stubbings, the infant accompaniments being taken by Miss M. Gillespie. A delightfully simple and inspiring address appropriate to the occasion was given by Mr Gardner who took for his text “For Whatsoever a man soweth, that also shall he reap.”

The services during the afternoon and evening were also largely attended, the preacher again being the Rev Gardner. The outstanding performance of the day was that of the evening service, due no doubt to the increasing confidence of the children. Mr Gardner thanked the scholars for their attention and complimented them on their beautiful singing. He said he was pleased to hear that they would be singing in the near future from 2YA.

Reference to the splendid behaviour and to the great assistance given by the children at the practices was made by Mr G. Masters. Mr G. W. Morice (superintendent) thanked Mr Masters and Miss Stubbings, L.R.S.M. (pianiste) for their able work in training the children. The scholars' performance reflected great credit on those responsible.
