WELLINGTON GAMES. SOME EXCITING FINISHES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Several exciting finishes were the features of the concluding day’s play in the second series of the Wellington Cricket Association's senior grade matches on Saturday. A large crowd at Kilbirnie saw Midland fall nine runs short of Kilbirnie’s first-innings score of 174. but some minor sensations followed. Kilbirnie looked like collapsing for under 100 in its second innings, but the tail-enders saved the side, leaving Midland with 169 runs to get for an outright win in little more than an hour. Midland found the task not only beyond it, but had to fight hard to avert complete defeat. Karori fell 19 runs short in its effort to reach Hutt’s first innings total of 174. Faulty running between the wickets as well as keen fielding cost Karori two valuable wickets, those of Briggs and Cutts, who both shaped well. Hutt batted a second time, interest centring in a very solid display by J. R. Capstick, who reached the century in the last over of the day.

Wellington secured an outright win over Old Boys, the last wicket falling in the last five minutes of play. Old Boys made 165 in reply to Wellington’s 214 and then disposed of the latter for 86, Moloney being absent, having left for Dunedin during the week. Requiring 135 runs in two hours, Old Boys failed by 10 runs. Institute had comparatively little difficulty in passing University’s first innings total of 161. University batted a second time, and at stumps had lostfour for 143.
