“LOVERS’ LEAP”
OPERA HOUSE ON WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY.
Much interest is being manifested in the newly-formed Masterton Little Theatre Society, and everyone will be eager to pronounce judgment on its first well-chosen offering “Lovers’ Leap,” a fast-moving comedy by Philip Johnson. The story centres oh two sisters, one of whom is afraid to marry Cedric Norreys, whom she adores, because of a peculiar belief that the matrimonial “leaps” of the female members of her family are destined to be unhappy. At the critical weekend when she visits her sister Helen’s country home, in company with her beloved, to grapple with this problem, who should unexpectedly arrive but Helen’s husband, Roger, who had deserted his temperamental wife seven years previously. From then on the plot develops with the greatest rapidity. The play is produced by Mrs E. J. Rich, and supervised by Mr F. E. McCallum. A strong cast includes Peggy Mirams, who has had extensive experience in repertory work at Gisborne, Timaru and Christchurch, while Grace Hopkins is responsible for some good work as the assertive Sarah. The humour is supplied by Frederic McCallum, who is screamingly funny as the demure Cedric Norreys. John Harcourt gives a powerful delineation of the role of Roger Storer, while John Kemnitz adequately does what is required as Poynter, the butler. The play is being presented in the Opera House for a two-night season only, on Wednesday and Thursday of this Week. The box plan is at Nimmo’s, where reservations may be made free of chargd. _
